PlayStation users have an excellent RPG they can play for free now, one that’s an ideal choice to play this Halloween too.
PlayStation Plus is where you’d usually go for an entire library of games at no additional cost but for those that don’t want to pay for Sony’s subscription service sometimes a bone gets thrown their way.
If you’re looking for something new to play I’d suggest giving Dead Island 2 a try, as while it wasn’t perfect it’s a fine zombie-survival RPG and a sequel is seemingly on the way.
Dead Island 2 is an incredibly interesting game. After the first game’s success a sequel felt inevitable but Dead Island: Riptide is widely considered unworthy of that title.

Then Dead Island 2 was teased during E3 2014. I remember watching the cinematic trailer and thinking it looked incredible despite there being no actual gameplay, and the guy pretending to be Jack Black at the end also got me excited for any celebrity appearances in the game.
Unfortunately it went through development hell and never saw the light of day until years later in 2023, the game you can now try for free on PlayStation consoles.

Dead Island 3
Moving onto the next game though, Dead Island 3 hasn’t been confirmed as of yet but the developers of Dead Island 2, Dambuster Studios, have teased the future of the series.

Dead Island 2 recently surpassed 20 million total sales and while celebrating the milestone the folks at Dambuster said “This isn’t the final cut though. Dambuster Studios are already carving out what comes next. For now, the details stay under wraps, the outbreak is far from over…"
It sounds like Dead Island 3 but it could very well be a spin-off or a new series entirely, just set in the same world. Either more is to come.
Something I think many fans will be hoping for from a sequel is a bigger open-world, as while Dead Island 2 brought its players to Los Angeles you unfortunately couldn’t explore as much as we would have liked.
We don’t know where the next game will be set but there are plenty of candidates out there, and my personal pick would be Manhattan Island, New York. Something akin to I Am Legend would be great.

In the meantime be sure to give Dead Island 2 a go if you haven’t already, if you’ve got a PlayStation 4/5 that is.
