Young gamer receives PlayStation 5 from his late father as a posthumous final gift

This is such a sweet, moving story

A video showing a young gamer being gifted a PlayStation 5 from his late father posthumously has resurfaced online as Christmas Day draws near.

The TikTok, first posted in 2022, shows five-year-old Kevin, named after his late father, beaming with excitement at his new gaming setup, before he realises that it means his dad “can come play” with him every day.

In the caption, the mother of the young boy says, “Dad surprised son from heaven with a gaming setup with his picture on the PS5”, with the PS5 in question having a special customisation of Kevin’s father printed on the console so that his father is always with him.

Such a sweet yet moving story had us in tears last year, and now that we’ve watched the video again, those emotions have come rushing back. These types of stories quickly remind us of not only the bond we have with our families but also how gaming can connect us in unexpected ways.

We saw similar emotions when a son bought his elderly father a copy of Red Dead Redemption, with the senior gamer soon losing himself to the wonders of John Marston’s life. Again, this will be a memory that lives on regardless of the hands of fate.

Thanks to this final gift from his dad, Kevin will be able to explore all the wonders of the PS5 with his dad by his side. Even when a new console eventually comes out, we suspect Kevin will keep hold of this unique gift for sentimental reasons, just as most of us would.

A year on, we hope that Kevin is still enjoying gaming sessions with his late father; Christmas is a time for spending it with loved ones, and while we don’t all get the chance to do that, it’s touching to know that, through inanimate objects, we can still reconnect.
