Puzzle classic Lumines is making a return in the form of Lumines Arise, with the game set to release on 11 November, and you can give it a try right now, though you will have to be quick.

As first reported by Chris Scullion over at VGC, developer Enhance announced the upcoming release date and shadow dropped a brand new demo for the game, available to download now on both Steam and PlayStation 5.

The unfortunate caveat to that is that the demo will only be available for a week until 3 September at 11.59 PM (local time), following which it will be no longer available to play.

In better news, the demo does give a surprisingly broad view of what the game is going to be like when it does release. It features three levels from the single-player Journey mode and a short preview of the cross-platform multiplayer Burst Battle. Lastly, you'll be playing on easy difficulty and there is no VR compatibility at this juncture.

Lumines Arise is set to be a major reinvention of the classic puzzle hit, with more than 35 stages to progress through and impressive new visuals throughout.

If you've never played before, Lumines tasks players with manipulating 2x2 blocks of two different colours, that fall from the top of the screen in a similar way to Tetris (which the developer has worked on). The goal is to create solid blocks of a single colour, which are then destroyed when a timeline sweeps across the screen in time with the game's music. This generates points, with those serving as you main benchmark for success.

If the game really takes your fancy, Lumines Arise is also getting a deluxe edition that includes in-game avatars and nameplates inspired by other games Enhance has developed. PS5 players can also get their hands on an Astro Bot avatar for their troubles.
