PlayStation gamers will be surprised to hear that the PlayStation 4 isn’t dead…yet.
We’ve been in the new-generation for quite a while now and it’s certainly been a divisive one, even more so now that there’s talk of the next Xbox and PlayStation consoles arriving in the next couple of years.
The PlayStation 6 is a good example, as many fans are arguing it’s far too soon for Sony to launch a successor console when the PlayStation 5 has rarely had an opportunity to shine.
There have been some excellent exclusives no doubt but also a lot of remakes/remasters, and plenty of new games launched that work on both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.
Advert
In a surprising turn of events one of 2027’s upcoming games will be one such title, though I think a lot of gamers would be upset if it wasn’t…
During The Game Awards 2025 Capcom delivered several surprises, like finally confirming Leon Kennedy is returning for Resident Evil: Requiem. The announcement that really got me though was for a brand-new Mega-Man game, Mega-Man: Dual Override.

After so many packaged re-releases we’re finally getting a new entry and it’s in the style of the 2D platformers that made the Blue Bomber’s name.
In slightly less exciting news Capcom announced that Mega-Man: Dual Override will be launching in…2027…damn.
As part of that announcement though was confirmation the game will be launching for PlayStation 4 in addition to all the other consoles. This was a surprise to be sure but a welcome one at that.
The thought of a PlayStation 4 game in 2027 is frankly astonishing but it’s nice to know there’ll at least be some new games to play for those who haven’t upgraded yet.
Mega-Man: Dual Override will launch on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One and finally PC.
PlayStation 4 is Still Kicking?
One of the reasons this news is so surprising is because PlayStation itself is treating its fourth home console as a thing of the past.
Those subscribed to PlayStation Plus should cast their mind back to January 2025 when it was confirmed that by the end of the year there’ll be no new PlayStation 4 additions to the service.
This won’t affect the existing PlayStation 4 games but it does mean those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus and don’t own a PlayStation 5 just lost a reason to continue their subscriptions.
