Sony has recently announced the next batch of free games which will be arriving to the PlayStation Plus library and one offering already boasts a 94% rating by gamers.

To end 2025, Sony announced the line-up for January’s PlayStation Plus collection and alongside a racing game and one for the Disney fans, there was also the inclusion of an underrated gem.

Core Keeper.

Released for the first time back in 2024, Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure for 1-8 players.

Players will be tasked with exploring a vast cavern filled with creatures whilst they mine for relics and resources.

“Mine, build, fight, craft and farm to unravel the mystery of the ancient Core,” the official synopsis reads.

Developed by Pugstorm, Core Keeper has managed to earn itself a ‘Very Positive’ rating on Steam and a 7.5 User Score on Metacritic and so, considering it is also free from 6 January onwards, you have no excuse not to check it out.

Additionally, Core Keeper will be welcoming a major update on 28 January titled ‘Void & Voltage’ and so you will have more than enough time to catch up with the base game ahead of this new content.

So what else does Core Keeper include?

In a world where choices affect your journey, you will awaken as an explorer in a long-forgotten cavern teeming with untold secrets.

It is here that you will need to find and harvest relics, craft advanced tools, build your base and explore an ever-changing and dynamic setting.

There’s more.

While exploring the caverns, you will stumble across mystical enemies including legendary Titans who must be defeated in order to advance and find even more treasures.

By levelling up your skills, you will be able to take down any adversaries with ease.

However, it is not all action as you will also need to put aside time to grow your garden, fish in mysterious waters, raise and care for animals, discover and master a vast selection of recipes and even encounter the strange Cavelings.

“Enjoy the adventure solo or team up in two to eight player drop-in / drop-out online co-op.

“Play your way and explore at your own pace — celebrate the seasons, trade with merchants, hatch your new best friends, design the ultimate base, automate resource gathering, host your own dedicated server, create music on playable instruments and discover an unforgettable sandbox adventure.”

Core Keeper is perfect for solo or multiplayer sessions and will be the perfect game to kick off the year, especially as it will cost nothing extra to play from 6 January onwards thanks to PlayStation Plus.
