PlayStation fans finally have the portable PS1 emulator they've been waiting for

PlayStation fans can now quickly and easily play PS1 games on their phones, not set-up required.

Video game emulators are a way to play some of the classics without having to buy and set up a retro console, and buy the games

Having the urge to play Fallout 4 again? Here's everything you need to know below

Keep in mind that there are loads of emulators out there for just about every system imaginable and it’s entirely legal to play them, however, downloading games (ROMs) from external websites is piracy, so we’d urge you to avoid that.

That being said, if you own an original, physical copy of the game you’re playing and back it up onto a device, that’s technically fine before it’s still your game.

Recently gamers who own iOS devices have been treated to several video game emulators downloadable right from the store page, and the latest one will let you play several classic PlayStation games.

It’s called the Gamma PS1 emulator, similar to the Delta emulator that’s been doing the rounds recently, and it features a wide variety of PS1 games completely for free.

Players can customise and tweak the experience to their liking, such as through customisable on-screen controller skins, or you could connect a Bluetooth controller like the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 has for more precise controls. It also supports wired keyboards.

No BIOS files are needed to get the games working unlike other emulators, and it even supports Google Drive and Dropbox, so if you do have legally acquired ROMs of some of your favourite games you can quickly and easily add them to the library.

Of course the emulator is currently only available for iOS devices, so if you’re an Android user I’m afraid you’re out of luck for the time being.

If you grew up playing games on the original PlayStation or have a desire to see some of the classics for yourself for the very first time, don’t sleep on the Gamma emulator.
