PlayStation Plus is a failure as far as free PlayStation 3 games are concerned. Fortunately PCs are now doing what Sony can’t.
At the time of writing the PlayStation Plus Classics library has a very limited number of PlayStation 3 Games available.
The majority of these games can’t even be played natively either. They must be cloud-streamed so if your internet connection is spotty they’re less than the ideal version to play.
For the longest time this feature didn’t even work too, which given PlayStation Plus Premium’s expensive price-tag had many gamers pushing for a refund from Sony.

So why pay an arm and a leg for a collection of PlayStation 3 games that either don’t run well or don’t work at all? Especially when you can find those games, and many more, for free on PC right now.
As we reported yesterday PS3 emulation on PC has hit a major milestone making it easier than ever to relive what many would consider the good old days of gaming.

With the power of RPCS3 there are now thousands of PlayStation 3 games available for free which is a vast improvement over PlayStation Plus Premium’s limited offering for extortionate prices.
The full list of currently supported games is incredibly long and is only getting longer as time goes on.
Some of the standouts though include games like, Grand Theft Auto IV which has a notoriously bad PC port making the emulated PlayStation 3 version superior for a lot of gamers.

Games that are yet to see a re-release like Resistance: Fall of Man and Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots are also supported.
RPCS3 is also a gold mine for games that are currently stuck in legal purgatory, like Spider-Man: Edge of Time, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. These games will likely come back eventually but why wait years when they’re on PC and ready to play right now?
PlayStation Plus is a solid service if you’re subscribed to Essential or Extra. The free monthly games are an excellent bonus but it falls short when it comes to the classics and with more price-hikes predicted the value of Premium is diminishing fast.
If you can provide your own ROMs ripped from your own purchased PlayStation 3 games PC emulation is the way to go, at least until Sony locks in and overhauls its classics offering.
