PlayStation Plus users who are also massive trophy hunters have been urged to avoid the PS5 version of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered, which has just landed on the service this month.
Last week, Sony announced that Tomb Raider I-III Remastered would be getting added to the PlayStation Plus Essential library alongside Lords of the Fallen and Sword Art Online: Fractured Daydream.
Comprising the first three games in the Tomb Raider saga (as well as three expansion packs for additional value), the compilation has dozens of levels to play, and hundreds of trophies if you’re a hunter.
However, there remains an issue with the PS5 version of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered that doesn’t exist on PS4, and it’s a big reason why some players are opting to use the last-gen version of the game instead.

The PlayStation 5 version of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered doesn’t have a Platinum Trophy. This is due to a requirement from Sony that PS5 games can either have one Platinum Trophy, or none at all.
That leaves collections out in the dust, where multiple games can’t have a Platinum Trophy for each entry. PS4 doesn’t have this requirement, which is why each individual game in the collection has a Platinum Trophy each.
For trophy hunters who love seeking out Platinum Trophies and getting the most out of their playthroughs, it comes as a shock that the objectively best version of the game doesn’t actually support these features, which is why many are downgrading to the PS4 version via backwards compatibility.
“That’s my biggest gripe with game collections on PS5,” reads one comment on the PlayStation Trophies Reddit page. “You either got 1 platinum trophy across every featured game or none at all. When I HAVE to downgrade for more platinum trophies, we have a problem.”
“Thanks for the reminder, definitely getting the PS4 version. I'd love the 120 FPS on the PS5 version, but it's not worth not getting even a single plat for me,” reads another comment.
However, others have commented on the fact that aside from the lack of a Platinum Trophy, it’s still worth playing the PS5 version.
“No, I'm gonna play the better version regardless,” reads another comment. “Its not like you’re playing it and earning no trophies. Still a nice 100% to have on your profile.”
As it stands, it seems like the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game are almost identical from a content and performance point-of-view.
The main difference is that the PS5 version can go up to 120 FPS for support TVs, while the PS4 version is stuck to 60 FPS. But other than that, they're pretty much the same.
