PlayStation Plus gamers have been treated to one of the best horror games of 2024 this month, and I’ve played through it enough times to confirm that the 9/10 score it's earned itself is in no way an exaggeration.
Several bangers have already landed on PlayStation Plus this month, following Sony’s September line-up announcement.
Persona 5 Tactica, The Invincible, Fate/Samurai Remnant, Green Hell– definitely one of the more impressive months on the service, as far as the critical reception for each title goes.
However, one of the lesser-known titles on the list is actually the one that has garnered the most praise from gamers, and for good reason.

As spotted by Comicbook’s Tyler Fischer, one of PlayStation Plus’ September offerings, the 2024 Resident Evil-style survival horror game Crow Country, is more than likely to be the highest-rated entry this month (regardless of which platform you find it on).
On PlayStation 5, the game has a ridiculously impressive 4.76 out of 5 score, with over 3,000 individual reviews. Over on Steam, the score is even more impressive, with Crow Country earning itself an “Overwhelmingly Positive” score with over 5,500 reviews (98% of which are positive).
So what about this one struck such a chord with reviewers? Well, we can’t get specifics regarding PlayStation user scores, but thankfully we can over on Steam.
“People will tell you this is the Final Fantasy 7 of Resident Evil likes. And while there is truth to that, it only goes skin deep in describing the experience Crow Country is”, writes Steam user melancholygeek.

“2024 was an insane year for indie horror, and Crow Country's reputation for being one of the best of a plethora of great games is well deserved. You should play it.”
“As someone who wasn´t fortunate enough to play oldschool survival horror games when they were younger, I for sure felt like a child playing this”, commented reviewer Lady of Yharnam.
“It hit the nail right on the spot and hooked my right from the get go. I love how the story and characters are a bit obscure and bizarre, it adds much to the flair of the game.”
That last review is spot on for me, because as someone who has played all the old-school survival horror games of the 90s, Crow Country felt like travelling back in time or uncovering the ROM of some unreleased horror game to me.

It’s wacky, it’s genuinely a little spooky in parts, and it’s oddly nostalgic, considering it’s only a year old. Highly recommend you give this one a go, regardless of whether or not you’re a fan of the earlier Resident Evil titles.
