PlayStation Plus subscribers are being treated to an extra little freebie this month, thanks to the ever-so-generous… Electronic Arts? EA are giving away something for free?!
Huge news for people who like free games and free stuff in free games, because PlayStation Plus subscribers are being treated to both of those this week.
Actually, that’s not entirely true, because even non-PS Plus subscribers can grab the game for free– but I hope you’ve got a stable internet connection if you want to play it.
Earlier this week, Electronic Arts released skate. into early access. Some fans have simply taken to referring to it as Skate 4, regardless of the fact that EA have been very clear about it being a reboot (and not a direct sequel to 2010’s Skate 3).

The game is completely free to play, and (regardless of what platform you want to play it on) you don’t need to pay for any kind of subscription to give it a go.
So, it’s a follow-up to a beloved franchise and it’s free, which surely means that fans must be thrilled, right?
It’s difficult to comment on the quality of the game moment, as there are no official reviews available at this point, but, judging by the 50/50 “Mixed” score that skate. currently has on Steam, it would seem that things are looking good.
It’s probably a good thing that EA chose not to refer to this as “Skate 4”, because the majority of concerns stem from fans of the franchise. The most common criticism seems to be the art style (with fans comparing it to The Sims), but there are numerous complaints about bugs and a lack of content, too.

Oh, and it requires an always-online connection to play, so hopefully your internet doesn’t cut out halfway through a session.
Anyway, free stuff! As detailed in an article by PlayStation Lifestyle's Michael Ruiz, skate. PlayStation 5 players with active PlayStation Plus subscriptions can currently download a few unique board customisation items, including some wheels, stickers and a deck art.
That’s extra handy because, hey, if you want to customise your character or your board, you’ll have to fork out some money on some microtransactions. Ahh, there’s the Electronic Arts I know and hate.
I swear that every single thing I’ve heard about this game so far has been a misstep, which is a shame because the gameplay itself looks pretty fun.

At least you won’t have to bother with a refund request if it’s not to your liking. Silver lining, I guess?
