PlayStation Plus New Free Game Stuns: 'I Fell to My Knees'

Please, Sony, I'm begging you: add online support for this one

One very specific game is getting PlayStation Plus subscribers pumped, following last night's announcement that it’s set to land on the service very soon.

Yesterday’s State of Play livestream was a bit of a mixed bag.

Obviously, getting our first proper look at Marvel’s Wolverine was cool, and I'm personally pretty excited for Housemarque's Saros, but all in all, it was slightly underwhelming– although that’s pretty par for the course as far as Sony’s State of Plays are concerned.

Case in point, you know it wasn’t exactly the most exciting event when one of the best parts of the stream was the PlayStation Plus reveal.

Perhaps that is being a little harsh however, as it really is one of the best PS Plus lineups in recent memory. Getting Alan Wake II as a PlayStation Plus Essential title is huge in itself, but the reveal that both Deus Ex Remastered and The Last of Us Part II are coming to the service really pushed things over the edge for me.

One particular addition to the PlayStation Plus Classics catalogue has struck a chord with folks over the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit, though, and I’m right there with them.

“Soul Calibur 3. That has one of the best side content I've played in a game. I hope it will be able to be bought right from the store”, commented user Ecstatic-Arachnid-91.

“I fell to my knees when I saw soulcaliber 3”, replied user Psychological-Run-40.

“Tekken 3 and Soulcalibur 3 i can't wait!” commented user Sm211.

“Been starved for good game additions in classic catalog for a while now.”

If you somehow haven’t played Soulcalibur III already, I cannot stress how well this game still holds up today, even twenty years after its original release on the PlayStation 2.

I wasted hundreds of hours playing through its Chronicles of the Sword mode with friends as a kid, which is why I’m praying that the PlayStation Plus Classics release has some kind of online functionality.

As far as an exact release date is concerned though, for the time being, Sony hasn’t opted to give us a firm date.

They did note during the presentation that it will land on PlayStation Plus at some point in 2025 however, so at least we only have a maximum of three months left to get our hands on it.

Here’s hoping that you can outright buy it from the PlayStation Store too, because this is one I’d gladly own, regardless of if it’s on PS Plus or not.
