It looks like Sony has just confirmed another price increase for PlayStation Plus in the future.
It’s fair to say that gaming might be cheaper to enjoy than some other hobbies, but that doesn’t mean it’s always cheap. In fact, the prices of everything seem to keep going up.
The fact that this generation has seen price increases on consoles and accessories, rather than steady decreases over time, says enough about the state of the games industry economy.

Subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass have also fallen victim to this.
Xbox Game Pass had a 25% price increase in 2024, for example.
PS Plus had a big price hike in 2023, and another one earlier this year in certain regions.
Now, it appears that Sony Interactive Entertainment isn’t ruling out another price hike for the subscription service, following comments from CEO Hideaki Nishino during the latest business segment meeting (thanks, VGC).

Nishino noted that PlayStation Plus subscribers on the Extra and Premium tiers of the service represented 38% of the total users in FY2024, an 8% increase from FY2022 despite the price hike.
“This is even after the global price increases we implemented in FY2023, and more recently, the local price increases in selected countries, to improve our pricing strategy across certain market clusters,” Nishino later said in a video.
“These price increases were partly a result of increasing value we bring to the players, through the quality and diversity of content we continue to add, as well as investment in the features to improve the service further, such as player personalisation and enhanced content discovery.
“The PlayStation Plus service offers great value for our players, and we will continue to add more value and adjust our pricing strategy in a dynamic way to maximise profitability.”

It sounds like SIE might be readying up for another price increase in the future. Whether fans will feel like this matches the value the service provides remains to be seen.
