Nintendo has officially announced price increases across the Nintendo family of products, impacting everything from consoles to Amiibos.
Effective 3 August 2025, Nintendo will increase the prices of the Nintendo Switch console, including the OLED model, and the Switch Lite.
The announcement was made via the Nintendo website, and will affect American consumers only.
That’s not to say this won’t occur across the rest of the world over time, as the only reason given for the change was undisclosed “market conditions.”

If you’re to read into that, this could be a change to reflect President Trump’s tariffs which came into effect a few months ago, or it could simply show the increasing costs of production.
Either way, the statement from Nintendo is clear - all products, including accessories, will see a price rise.
Players are guided to the Nintendo America store to monitor the increases.
This change will cover older hardware, and the Nintendo statement explains, “Pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 system, physical and digital Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch Online memberships, will remain unchanged at this time.”

So, if you’re thinking of buying a Nintendo console, it might be best to try and opt for the newer Nintendo Switch 2.
The American arm of the company continued their statement, saying, “please note that price adjustments may be necessary in the future.”
Whether this will happen is anyone’s guess, but with the video game industry pushing for higher prices to cover costs and remain profitable, there’s a chance it could roll out worldwide.
The launch of Nintendo Switch 2, was a huge success for the company, which not only saw sales of over six million consoles, but an almost one-to-one attach rate for Mario Kart World, with over six million copies of the game sold, too.
