PlayStation Plus hit with another hefty price increase

"This further justifies my decision that this will be my last PlayStation"

Exactly a week ago today, I warned everyone that more PlayStation price increases were inbound. Call it a hunch, call it an educated guess– call it whatever you like, the important thing is that I was right.

On April 10th, Sony revealed that the price of PlayStation Plus would be increasing in 15 countries, including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Peru.

Then, less than 24 hours later, they announced that PlayStation Plus would also be getting more expensive in Australia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Then, on April 14th, Sony hit us with the big one: the recommended retail price of PlayStation 5s would be going up in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

Well, they’re not done yet, because as of today… the price of PlayStation Plus is going up in Canada and Türkiye too.

Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if I missed a few countries in this list either, because they seem to be floating out these price increases every 48 hours at this point.

So, how do the subscribers feel about all this? Well, how would you feel about hearing that you gotta pay more money for something?

Over on the r/PS5 subreddit, the comments reacting to the news are uniformly not bloody happy.

“Just cancelled,” commented user Jardolam_.

“Hope this results in lots of cancellations but I'm terrified it won't.”

“I think this further justifies my decision that this will be my last PlayStation. If I'm going to be spending this much on a console, might as well just go full PC,” replied user michelobX10.

“I'm fairly certain the PS6 is going to be $800 minimum at this rate and then the lowest tier of PS+ will be $100/year by then… I already think it's BS that Cloud saving is behind a subscription, too. What if that's all I wanted? I still need to pay an $80/year subscription?”

Good for them. As the first comment stated, I hope this decision really comes back to bite Sony in the ass.

I get it, it’s a volatile market or whatever. Regardless of the PR-crafted line Sony wants to use to justify it, they can do one.

Video games are a luxury, yes, and we know that we have to invest our money into our hobby to enjoy it, but I’m not going to sit here and pretend that the billion-dollar company Sony needs more money. I hope this spectacularly backfires on them.
