PlayStation Plus latest update has fans livid: 'I'm about to cancel'

Don't get it twisted: your country will be next on the chopping block

Sony has just announced that the price of PlayStation Plus has increased in several countries. Just a heads up, if your country isn’t listed in this article, don’t get comfortable; it will likely be soon.

As revealed on the Latin American PlayStation Blog, prices for all PS Plus tiers across the region are set to increase this month. This includes Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay, and roughly half a dozen other Latin American countries.

In case this wasn’t obvious, the folks over on the r/PlayStationPlus subreddit aren’t thrilled about this.

Oh, it doesn’t end there, though. Yahoo reports that prices are set to increase in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Push Square reports that prices are going up in Australia, too.

Considering this has all been announced in the space of about 48 hours, I’d be extremely surprised if these are the only countries that’ll be hit this month.

So if you’re reading this and thinking, “Oh phew, my country wasn’t mentioned”, then buckle up, chief, because I’d wager that Sony is just spacing these increases out to soften the negative response.

Hogwarts Legacy will join PlayStation Plus next week.

What’s the reason for the increases? Well, unsurprisingly, Sony is putting the blame on “global market conditions”.

“Like many companies around the world, we continue to be impacted by global market conditions and will be adjusting our local PlayStation Plus pricing,” reads their official statement on the Latin American PlayStation Blog.

“This pricing adjustment will allow us to continue offering high-quality games and value-added benefits to your PlayStation Plus subscription.”

Yeah, sure buddy. Look, I know the stock market is in a tizzy at the moment and the American government’s volatile behaviour is scaring all the poor, billion-dollar companies, but do you really think Sony would decrease these prices if everything went back to normal?

Let’s not pretend that this is something that they had to do. They’re not on the breadline. PlayStation is a business, not a charity. It exists to make money.
