PlayStation has dropped 12 new free downloads that we can claim now without needing PS Plus.

If you’ve fired up your PlayStation 5 today, you may have noticed 12 new additions in the ‘Welcome’ tab where you can customise the PS5 background based on the likes of Ghost of Tsushima, God of War Ragnarök, Horizon Forbidden West and more.

Check out the Ghost of Tsushima trailer below!

Last year, Sony finally brought animated backgrounds to the PlayStation 5 via a free update. Animated backgrounds or dynamic themes as they are known on PS3 and PS4, are great ways to celebrate the games we love.

While some of the animated backgrounds were certainly better than the generic option originally available, there was only one inspired by an actual video game, that is the critically acclaimed Astro Bot.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Astro Bot but I have been waiting for months for Sony to add new additions inspired by some of its other popular first-party titles. Alas, that time has arrived.

PlayStation has silently rolled out new Animated Backgrounds for the PS5 Welcome tab to select users!

As brought to our attention by Twitter user Genki_JPN in addition to Astro Bot and the other previously mentioned games, we now have – Days Gone, Demon’s Souls, Ghost of Yotei, Horizon Zero Dawn, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Steller Blade, Rise of the Ronin and MLB The Show 25.

“The Stellar Blade one goes hard. Already rocking that one,” replied GRIMMYRAX. I bet it does GRIMMYRAX, I bet it does.

There are some notable exclusions at the time of writing, such as The Last of Us, Gran Turismo, Marvel’s Spider-Man, and more, but I’m sure those games will arrive in the coming months.

“WHERE IS THE LAST OF US?” exclaimed dimlitknightt who may or not be an angry GAMINGbible team member using a burner account.

Judging by other comments on the Twitter thread, not everyone has the choice of all the animated backgrounds but hopefully, they will roll out to everyone in the coming days.
