Sometimes exceptional gaming experiences slip through the cracks. One such title, deemed a “hidden masterpiece”, is currently available to PlayStation Plus subscribers.

While there’s no sign of the title leaving just yet, PlayStation Plus changes its lineup often, and so to avoid disappointment we advise acting swiftly.

PlayStation's subscription has been delivering quite a number of bangers recently, be that in the form of free downloads for gorgeous new games or free store credit available throughout September.

Instead of demos and PlayStation Stars campaigns, this offering is something different: it’s a full game.

What is more, it’s a metroidvania that many players believe is a “hidden masterpiece” deserving of more attention than it’s garnered thus far.

“Either I don’t play enough metroidvanias or Grime is truly a hidden masterpiece,” shared Redditor compromisedpilot, which is quite the strong opener for a thread.

They didn’t stop there though, they also spoke of the joy they’re getting from the game’s challenges, “Literally only second level in and I’m in LOVE with how the game challenges you to think.”

If you haven’t heard of Grime, that is a grave error that needs to be corrected.

This award-winning title has a string of very positive reviews on Steam, and has been described as “a hell of a game”.

There are many other comments that share this sentiment, further reinforcing the belief that this title has unfairly gone under the radar for far too long.

Grime isn’t just a metroidvania, though, it’s also been referred to as a “soulsvania”.

Reddit user Regular-Statement-11 coined the phrase in their comment saying, “Grime was super fun. More of a Soulsvania, if that is a real thing, but I really thought it was a unique take and a cool world lore.

“The parry/absorb mechanic really opened up a lot of playstyles. Glad people are finding on the service, it's a good one!”

We’re not ones to be easily swayed; that said, with this many people singing its praises, perhaps it’s time we checked out Grime, too.

Not only can PS Plus users grab this game for free but Steam users can download the demo free of charge.
