PlayStation Plus users are being urged to play this free horror game with positive user review scores.

One of the best things about PlayStation Plus is that it gives players the opportunity to check out some new and old games without having to pay a premium price for them.

You may only be renting those games, but being able to pay a small monthly fee and having access to hundreds of games is a great way to try out a diverse number of games.

Right now, PlayStation Plus users have been urged to check out this horror game from 2024 with an average user rating of 4.54 out of 5 stars.

Or basically, just over 9/10.

Still Wakes The Deep is a horror game developed by The Chinese Room, the developer behind beloved indie classics like Dear Esther and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. It also recently launched Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2.

Set on an oil rig in the 1970s, Still Wakes The Deep has been described as “The Thing but at sea”.

What is Still Wakes The Deep about?

In it, you play as Cameron "Caz" McLeary, an electrician aboard the Beira D drilling platform who must find a way to escape after the oil rig becomes infested by a group of mysterious monsters.

There’s no combat, and instead you must sneak around the rig and solve puzzles in order to progress, using distractions and traps to evade detection by the monsters.

The game’s cast is largely made up of Scottish actors, with actor Alec Newman winning a BAFTA for his role as Caz. Other actors featured in the game include Neve McIntosh, Karen Dunbar, and Clive Russell.

“Still Wakes The Deep is really good,” recommends one user on the PlayStation 5 Reddit page.

“Genuinely the game that's scared me the most in a long time,” reads another comment. “I know it's basically a "walking simulator" but it is genuinely haunting and intense every step of the way. That fact that the enemies are largely obscured and rarely seen clearly only adds to the horror.”

“Yeah. Being Scottish, it really made the game pretty cool,” reads another. “Was kinda funny hearing Scottish slang in a game and understanding every single thing said!”

Still Wakes The Deep is now available on PlayStation Plus Extra, in which it’s playable on PS5. It also has a paid DLC epilogue, Siren's Rest, which was released earlier this year.
