PlayStation unexpectedly announced June’s PlayStation Plus Essential games early on 26 May, but they’ve failed to impress subscribers.
To be fair, it was always going to be a hard sell as recently PlayStation increased the price of all PlayStation Plus tiers for new subscribers. Thankfully, Days of Play is your opportunity to bag a membership at a reduced rate.
In addition to the three PlayStation Plus Essential games, the company threw in an exciting title for PlayStation Plus Extra and higher subscribers, Destiny 2: Legacy Collection. It’s a great game for sure but it hasn’t made the others any less disappointing.
The writing has been on the wall for quite some time even before the price-hike. As the cost continues to increase, you’d at least expect some banger games made available but Grounded, Warhammer 40,000 Darktide and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl 2 just didn’t do it for most people.
As a Warhammer 40k fan myself, Darktide is worth checking out, especially if you can get some friends to play it with you.

The above three titles will be available with your PlayStation Plus subscription on 2 June, but if you want to play Destiny 2: Legacy Collection you’ll have to wait until 9 June. You may also need to upgrade your subscription if you’re only on the Essential tier.
Like we said though, current subscribers just can’t get excited for these new additions, and we can’t blame them.
They threw their two cents into a Reddit thread by RequirementFew630 and the resounding consensus is June’s line-up is…fine, but nothing more.
“Don’t think I’ll play any of them unfortunately,” said Rlexii, with Grand_Engineering415 sharing a similar opinion, saying: “These are all a pass for me.”
Interesting_Bus3157 even said, “I feel like it’s been months since there’s been anything worthwhile to actually play on the monthly catalogue.”
Some subscribers felt a little more positive about June’s offering, like Flottrooster who wrote, “I'll give 'em a shot. Nothing that automatically catches my interest, but you never know unless you try it.”
Again, Warhammer 40,000 Darktide is worth a go if you can get some multiplayer parties going.
After the price-hike, what PlayStation Plus really needed was a month to prove the value of its service.
We didn’t need three top-tier AAAs but at least one title that could blow us all away would have made all of the difference.
Compare PlayStation Plus to its rival Xbox Game Pass and the difference is actually night and day, with Xbox users getting access to the latest first-party games like Forza Horizon 6.
To play devil’s advocate though, perhaps June’s PlayStation Plus offering would have also gone down better had it not dropped around the release of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and 007 First Light…
