Sony has hit PlayStation Plus with yet another price hike, just days after announcing the last.
It feels like we’re constantly being hit with a barrage of price hikes from entertainment subscription services, whether it’s Netflix, Disney, or Amazon Prime Video, and the video game industry is no exception.
In October 2025, Microsoft increased the price of Xbox Game Pass tiers, with some regions seeing a 50% price hike. However, following the appointment of the new Xbox CEO, Asha Sharma, Game Pass then dropped in price, but it was at the expense of day-one releases being scaled back.
Just the other day, Sony announced that its PlayStation Plus subscription service is going to get another price increase. This price increase was only set to impact the Essential tier, or so we thought.
Now, in an announcement more sneaky than Solid Snake and Sam Fisher combined, the PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium tiers are also getting jacked-up prices.

For now, at least, this will only impact the monthly and three-monthly subscriptions. 12-month subscriptions appear not to be impacted by the price increase. What’s more, as long as you keep your current subscription active, you shouldn't be impacted by the price hike either. But if you cancel it and then resub, you will.
Starting May 20, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers will increase in select regions. Due to ongoing market conditions, prices will start at $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP for 1-month subscriptions and $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP for 3-month subscriptions.…

As you can imagine, PlayStation Plus subscribers are not happy with yet another price increase, and they’ve let their feelings be known to Sony.
“Blaming market conditions is insane. It should be free to play online games without paywalls in 2026,” demanded videotech.
“Due to economic conditions for consumers, we will unsubscribe. - Consumers,” replied thaonlyjonathan.
“Games up. Consoles up. Accessories up. Now subs up…again. At some point, ‘market conditions’ just becomes the industry version of 'because we can’,” exclaimed ymnis_v1, making a very valid point.
“Nah, f*** you! You're doing this because you keep burning money with these dogs*** a** flop games that no one wants, so you're doing this to try to make up for the sheer loss,” vented DegenShori.
How much more can Sony keep increasing the cost of PlayStation Plus before it loses even more value for its customers? Only time will tell.
