The PlayStation Network experienced a major outage yesterday, preventing access to single-player games for thousands of fans.
While you’d be forgiven for thinking single-player games don’t require an internet connection, in this digital age, no internet means a lot of internal gaming services simply don’t work. This can leave many players limited in what they can and can’t play.

Yesterday, fans encountered a problem with the PlayStation Network, which prevented them from playing certain games they owned digitally or had downloaded through PlayStation Plus. An update for the error was promptly posted on the PlayStation website, saying, "PlayStation Network services are up and running, but there are external, internet-wide issues that might affect your experience."

The issue, and whatever was causing it, has since been fixed, with the PlayStation Network status now reading green across the board, though it caused chaos with fans.
In a Reddit post announcing the problem, fans shared their frustration, with many saying they’d attempted to play one of their many single-player titles to unwind for the evening, only to be blocked for seemingly no good reason. “Just got home from work. Was about to play some Ghost of Tsushima, and I’m encountering this same problem. I hope it’s fixed soon," read one comment.
“Online required games were a bad idea," said another user, while one comment read, “It really sucks that when you come back home from work to think you can play with your homies to then find out that Sony is up to some bulls**t again.”
PlayStations fans were even more frustrated following the recent price hike for PlayStation Plus. The increase affects all subscription tiers and was reportedly introduced to provide a better overall service, which is ironic as it seems to be getting worse.

Frequent online issues combined with higher prices for online play and game catalogues could spell out disaster for Sony’s subscription service in the coming months, especially since many are threatening to cancel their memberships.
For the time being though, the PlayStation Network is running as normal so you shouldn’t have any issues accessing your games.
