PlayStation Plus Free Games Lineup For October Comes With One Major Catch

This will take forever (maybe)

The next batch of free PlayStation Plus games is around the next corner for October 2025, but there’s one major catch before we get to play them.

For those who subscribe to Sony’s subscription service, PlayStation Plus, it can be an exciting time waiting to see what new games we’ll get to play, whether it's a first-party title, a AAA third-party release or an indie darling that’s been on our radar for a while.

Much like Xbox Game Pass, regardless of the tier that you subscribe to, PlayStation Plus can save you a lot of money if you’re the type of gamer who likes to have plenty of choices each month.

Even for its top-tier PlayStation Plus Premium, the cost of a single month is significantly cheaper than that of a newly released AAA game. Then you’ll have hundreds of games in your library, as well as access to other perks such as cloud streaming, a curated selection of movies, discounts and so forth.

Granted, those games are not yours to keep, and they will only be accessible with an active subscription, but it's a great value nonetheless.

Typically, whether it's PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra or Premium, once the latest line-up of games has been announced by Sony, they typically drop on a Tuesday. For example, the PS Plus Essential games always become available on the first Tuesday of a new month.

However, as brought to our attention by PlayStation LifeStyle, due to how the days fall at the end of this month as we lead into October, the next batch of PS Plus games is going to drop a little later than usual.

So, why are the PlayStation Plus Essential games going to drop later than usual, I hear you ask? Well, due to 30 September falling on a Tuesday, it means that the first Tuesday in October does not arrive until the 7th.

No doubt, this will be a minor inconvenience to those impatient few (present company included); however, on the plus side (see what I did there? Sorry, not sorry), it means that we’ll be waiting a little less for the PlayStation Plus Essential games the following month, which will be on Tuesday, 4 November.

As for the most recent inclusions for PlayStation Plus Essential for September 2025, the line-up includes Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley and Viewfinder.

For those who subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, they were treated to WWE 2K25, Persona 5 Tactica, Crow Country and more.

Once Sony announces all the next games included in PlayStation Plus Essential, Extra and Premium tiers, as always, we’ll be sure to update you right away.
