If you’re short of entertainment this week and you just so happen to own a PlayStation, I have just the thing to keep you busy.
Bethesda has unveiled that The Elder Scrolls Online will officially be going free-to-play for a limited time.
From now until 12 August, the game will not cost you a penny to enjoy, with the free-to-play event coinciding with 2025’s QuakeCon, the yearly convention hosted by ZeniMax, Bethesda’s parent company.
This free period grants you access to all aspects of the base game, from what I can tell, so you won’t be locked out of doing or achieving anything.

How far you progress is totally down to how many hours you can sink in before time runs out.
Of course, if you do enjoy what you play, your full progress will be carried over upon purchase of the full release.
To access the free period, you’ll need to download the trial version of the game from the PlayStation Store, but don’t be put off by the word ‘trial’.
As I said, this isn’t a small snippet; I suppose this is just an easier way to rescind the full game in a few days' time.

The Elder Scrolls Online is actually available via PlayStation Plus already if you have an extra or premium tier subscription.
It’s with that in mind that this offer is likely going to be of interest only to those either without a subscription or with the essential tier option.
If you do end up wanting the full game, a promotion is running alongside this free weekend.
You can pick up the game for just £3.74, which is a 75% saving. That’s less than a latte; talk about a good deal.

That offer runs until 14 August, two days beyond the end of the free-to-play period, so you have sufficient time to make a decision.
The Elder Scrolls Online is definitely something I think all of us who enjoyed Skyrim must try at one point in time.
Certainly, MMOs aren’t for everybody, but it’s fun to explore Tamriel’s past, even if you only stick with this release just for the free weekend.
I should add that this offer is running across all relevant platforms, so you can also join in on Xbox and PC.
