PlayStation giving away free games to shift more PS5 consoles

A new PS5 equals a free game.

In order to bring more players to the PlayStation 5, Sony has decided to throw some free games at new owners. Even better, you can choose whichever game you want from a pretty decent list of the PS's greatest hits.

The deal started 23 September and it features a strong selection of first-party titles that have consistently impressed players and critics alike. This offer is only available to new owners and runs until 20 October, so you'll need to be quick.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will soon launch on PS5. Take a look at our preview below.

The full list of games is as follows:

  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Marvel's Spider-Man: Remastered
  • God of War: Ragnarök
  • Horizon Forbidden West
  • Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut
  • Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
  • Demon's Souls
  • The Last of Us Part I
  • Sackboy: A Big Adventure
  • Returnal
  • Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
  • Death Stranding: Director's Cut

That's a hefty list of knockout games. It's likely that PlayStation are using this offer to gear up towards the release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which will launch 20 October, which makes choosing either of the preceding games a good choice. Then, there's Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart which takes full advantage of the console's SSD, with swift loading times.

If you're up for a challenge, you can see where the whole Soulsborne genre got started, with the remake of Demon's Souls. Or, if roguelikes are your thing, then the sci-fi shooter Returnal will have you coming back again and again.

There's no doubting the value here, even if many of these titles have been out for a while now. After all, nobody wants to buy a new console and have nothing to play. Not only is Sony offering a good selection, but there is arguably no duds on that list of choices.

If you're currently thinking of joining the new generation of games consoles, this is a great way to jump in and hit the ground running.
