PlayStation gamers discuss a once paid-for shooter that has gone free to play in a recent update.

It’s often a bonus being able to play free video games whether it’s huge titles such as Fortnite and Call of Duty: Warzone or demos for an upcoming release. However, when a game that was once paid for is later given away for free, it can raise some concerns.

Check out the Arcadegeddon trailer below!

Take for example the co-op roguelike shooter Arcadegeddon from Illfonic, the studio behind the likes of Predator: Hunting Grounds, Killer Clowns from Outer Space: The Game and Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

Released in June 2021 for PC, PlayStation and Xbox, Arcadegeddon is a co-op shooter that can also be played on your lonesome which scored a fairly mundane 73 on the aggregate website, Metacritic.

“Rise up and play with up to three friends in this ever-evolving cooperative multiplayer, roguelite shooter,” reads the description of the game. “Explore multiple biomes, and mini-games, find hidden chests, and defeat numerous enemies and bosses.”

In July 2022, Arcadegeddon was included in PlayStation Plus Essential, all but making it a free-to-play game. Yet, in the most recent update to the game, it is now officially free to all with no subscription required.

“It was pretty garbage,” said Redditor JaySouth84 with Barnes_the_Noble adding “Pretty amazing how this game has survived this long but Spectre Divide can’t last a month or so on console.”

“I tried playing it, but everything became too repetitive, especially with a grind right at the start. I deleted it pretty quick,” replied Hartia.

“This has happened so many times, it's annoying,” exclaimed KittenDecomposer96. “They keep giving us these multiplayer games that no one wants that either go free-to-play or they close the servers.”

“I had a good five(ish) hours with it. Then completely forgot about its existence till now,” revealed Csub.

“Soon it will die, just like Knockout City,” claimed Raja_The_Fat.

Arcadegeddon is currently free-to-play across all available platforms, just in case you want to check it out before it inevitably disappears for good.
