Black Myth: Wukong is perhaps best pitched as a title that blends the difficulty of Dark Souls with the hack n’ slash chaos of God of War.

Fair to say, it’s not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy action RPGs with a relentless pace then this may just be the game for you.

Developed and published by Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong launched just last year, as I’m sure you’re aware, going on to garner a ‘Game of the Year’ nomination at Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards.

It didn’t win, losing out to Astro Bot, but it did pick up plenty of other accolades during awards season.

Black Myth: Wukong follows the ‘Destined One’, a monkey who sets out to recover six relics that correspond to Sun Wukong’s six senses.

On paper, it’s a straightforward journey but, of course, plenty of foes stand in our protagonist's way.

While Black Myth: Wukong reviewed well, it did draw some controversy after influencers were reportedly asked not to mention politics in relation to the game, including “feminist propaganda”.

As such, the “anti-woke” crowd heralded the game as if it was the second coming of Christ and that went down like a lead balloon with everybody else.

That mess aside, Black Myth: Wukong is certainly worth playing if you’re a souls fan, and PlayStation users can now sample it for free with a valid PlayStation Plus premium tier subscription.

Black Myth: Wukong is available as a Game Trial which means that premium tier subscribers can try out two-hours of the game for free.

There’s no limitation on what you can achieve during those two-hours as this is the full build that you’ll gain access to.

If you decide to pick the game up following this, it’ll set you back £54.99 on the PlayStation Store, having hardly fallen in price since its release.

That’s why the concept of ‘try before you buy’ can be so useful.

I’m assuming progress from the Game Trial should carry on over if you do end up picking up the full game from the PlayStation Store.

It’s perhaps a good time to try Black Muth: Wukong as it's rumoured that it may be receiving DLC either this year or in 2026.

That is just a rumour, for now, but I’d be incredibly surprised if devs didn’t capitalise on the game’s success.
