PlayStation gamers praise free download for 'best game of the year'

Could this win GOTY?

There is no denying that 2025’s The Game Awards is going to be full to the brim with incredible releases and as of right now, there is no calling which game will walk away with the grand prize of Game of the Year.

That being said, we already know some of the big contenders and one of which includes an epic RPG that is free to check out now for PlayStation users.

I am, of course, talking about Kingdom Come: Deliverance II which was first released back in February as a direct sequel to 2018’s Kingdom Come: Deliverance.

Developed by Warhorse Studios, this medieval RPG was an instant hit when it was first released at the start of the year and even went on to sell two million copies within its first two weeks.

Now the dust has settled somewhat, Kingdom Come: Deliverance II is still widely regarded as one of the best game releases of the year and our very own Emma Flint agreed.

“Henry has been waiting for a chance to reclaim some of what was lost during his first adventure,” her review reads.

“He’s older and a little bit wiser, though still hot-headed when he wants to be.

His is a tale meant to be expanded upon as you take control of his actions. Embrace being the narrator of his story, don’t shy away from it.

Henry of Skalitz is yours to command, do him justice and give him an adventure filled with the complexities befitting this honest, hardworking man.”

If you were unfortunate enough to miss out on Kingdom Come: Deliverance II earlier this year, fear not as Sony is giving PlayStation users the chance to try out the game for absolutely free courtesy of a game trial.

This will allow players to explore the first couple of hours of the game to get a feel of what the RPG has to offer and it seems as though this was the right move from Sony.

“Playing the Kingdom Come: Deliverance II game trial on PS5,” user NextGenPlayer wrote on Twitter.

First two hours are story heavy, and full of twists.”

“One of my favorites this year so far,” another comment read.

Another agreed, adding, “Yep! KCD2 is probably going to be my favorite for GOTY.

The story, game mechanics, and visual fidelity are all solid. And the creativity you can use to solve various situations gives me Baldur’s Gate 3 vibes.”

So, if you want to check out Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 before making the investment, make sure to take advantage of the PlayStation 5 free trial.
