GTA 6 leak reveals hilarious PlayStation Easter egg as The Last of Us roasted

More than just being the biggest game of 2026, it looks like Rockstar Games' next Grand Theft Auto really could be the biggest video game of all time.

Thanks to the continued success of GTA V and GTA Online, the franchise has never been far from our thoughts, so it's easy to forget we haven't had a new game since 2013.

The world has changed a lot in the past 13 years, although we're sure GTA’s self-referential humour will be flowing through the next outing.

As we gear up for the release of GTA VI, the recent deluge of leaks proves that Rockstar still isn't afraid of poking fun at others. This time, it's Naughty Dog's The Last of Us that's being roasted.

GTA 6 leaks include The Last of Us Easter egg

Past GTA games include jokes like iFruit and Lifeinvader as riffs on Apple and Facebook, while even video games aren't off the parody menu. Previous entries have included Righteous Slaughter 7 as a pretty obvious Call of Duty riff, while Street Crimes: Gang Wars Edition is a wink at early GTA entries.

GTA VI has been rocked by the recent CyberLeek leak, with claims that a whole playable build will be dropped unless Rockstar bends to their demands.

While most people are preoccupied with features like a revamped wanted system and Max Payne-inspired kill-cam, other eagle-eyed fans picked up on an apparent The Last of Us parody called We Came Together.

Zoom in, and you can spot a The Last of Us-esque video game on a shelf, complete with a similar font. More than this, it pokes fun at Naughty Dog releasing The Last of Us Part I as a remake of 2014's remaster.

There's a clear sense of irony that the spine says, "The remaster of the remakes."

Although many found the jibe funny and someone branded it 'hilarious', not everyone was a fan.

One critic complained: "As someone that loves TLOU and loves RDR/GTA, Rockstar is one to talk lmao. Literally can’t even remaster RDR1 for the PS5 🙄."

Another grumbled: "Gta v re-released constantly like every 2 years in between them on every single platform then re-released on pc with a total of 5 different releases (ps3 360, then ps4 xbone, then pc, then ps5 series, then pc AGAIN) of the same game lmao rockstar is so much worse."

Trying to keep the peace, a third concluded: "That’s just R*'s way of saying TLOU is amazing. Lol. I love it. I love that they don't make it all about themselves, but bring everyone together. GTA VI looks amazing."

It's not just The Last of Us being mocked, as we see the game sitting next to a new Righteous Slaughter.

The Last of Us co-director isn't sold on GTA VI

While it's likely this Easter egg has been in there for a while, it's returning fire for what Naughty Dog veteran Bruce Straley had to say about the automotive adventure. Reiterating that there was 'no shade' and he's just curious, Straley took to X in August 2026 and asked: "What do you hope is new in GTA6 you haven’t already experienced in its predecessors? OR simply, Why are you gonna play GTA6? Because I don’t know if I’m interested & I’m not sure if I’m an outlier.🤔."

Although Straley told us he used to work in the sausage factory a long time ago (referencing his time with Naughty Dog), his thoughts divided gamers.

Playing Devil's advocate, many wanted to see whether Rockstar can deliver the same kind of record-breaking success or the GTA formula has gotten tired. We very much imagine it'll be the former.

One GTA VI supporter said: "RDR2 was one of the most immersive games I’d ever played. You could SMELL the environment 😄 GTA6 has THAT as a baseline, from a technical standpoint anyway. I’m looking forward to one of the most living, breathing open worlds we’ve ever seen."

We'll cut Straley some slack, because as the co-director of The Last of Us and working on its Left Behind DLC, he's pumped out a certified banger and is entitled to his opinion.
