GTA 6 gamer claims lawyer turned up at his house as major manhunt for leaker begins

Grand Theft Auto VI remains at the epicentre of an unprecedented storm as one mysterious leaker continues to wreak havoc on the Rockstar Games title.

It’s not a matter that Rockstar Games is taking lightly, having supposedly sent lawyers to the home of one Reddit user suspected to have intel on the debacle.

The individual or group known as CYBERLEEK began leaking clips and information pertaining to GTA VI on August 18.

It began with several short gameplay clips and a look at the game’s map; in the days since, further leaks have followed with it now being feared that CYBERLEEK has access to a full build of GTA VI.

In fact, CYBERLEEK claims to have set up a dead man’s switch, of sorts.

They’ve shared that multiple builds of GTA VI are already set up to launch worldwide with the leaker having to manually cancel their public releases everyday.

That means that if the leaker is apprehended, Rockstar Games risks the game becoming readily available online. Admittedly, the leaker could be bluffing.

It hasn’t seemingly detracted Rockstar Games from deploying lawyers and investigators to get to the bottom of this worrying situation.

In fact, one gamer has reported that a lawyer representing Rockstar Games turned up at this front door.

One Reddit user appears to have predicted the leak one month before it began

Known on Reddit as PilotX1970, the user posted to r/GTA6unmoderated around a month ago to say: “August 18th - don’t ask me how I know. If you don’t believe me, come back on that date and we will see.”

The day ended up being the day, of course, that CYBERLEEK began their campaign of tyrany upon GTA VI.

Fans flocked back to the Reddit post.

“How?” one asked, to which PilotX1970 responded, “It’s not about what you know, but rather about who you know.”

“So you knew CYBERLEEK all along? Interesting,” another comment read.

“Friend of friend,” PilotX1970 added.

It’s being reported that Take-Two, Rockstar Games’ parent company, has filed subpoenas seeking information on user accounts possibly linked to the leak from Microsoft and Discord; it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Reddit was also targeted.

There’s a video shared by PilotX1970 circulating online showing the supposed outcome of Rockstar’s pursuit, with a lawyer arriving claiming to be representing the company.

Admittedly, this is quite easily something Rockstar Games would do. It’s always taken security of its games very seriously, and this is definitely the most perilous situation the studio has arguably been in to date.

That being said, there are also reports of PilotX1970 being a conman, having faked the videos to extract meme coins.

It’s nigh impossible to verify the truth at this stage, so it’s worth taking the information with a pinch of salt.

Even if the video is fake, you do have to wonder how PilotX1970 did know to post to Reddit with the date of the leaks.

Either way, Rockstar Games hunted down the leaker behind the 2022 data breach, so chances are that this latest culprit is found before long.

The leaker’s commandments are yet to be met by Rockstar Games

CYBERLEEK isn’t going to stop leaking GTA VI any time soon as their demands have not been met.

If you’ve not yet seen the leaker’s manifesto, they’re seeking movement on three commandments:

• "Thou shalt not sell digital pre-orders."
• "Thou shalt not sell fake single-player DLC," referring to content already locked within a game's files.
• "Thou shalt preserve single-player content," with games needing to have an "offline fallback state".

Rockstar Games has not committed to either of those three things, nor is it going to at this stage.

The studio’s best hope of nipping these leaks in the bud is hunting down those responsible with that dead man’s switch turning out to be nothing but a hoax.
