Thanks to recently leaked GTA VI gameplay footage, it appears that a popular and stylish mechanic from Max Payne 3 could be making its way into Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated open-world game.
It seems Rockstar Games has little control over the recent wave of GTA VI leaks, with the sheer volume of leaked gameplay footage arguably putting the infamous leaks ahead of the game’s December 2023 official reveal to shame.
However, one interesting feature appears to have flown under the radar. The mechanic was brilliantly implemented in 2012’s Max Payne 3 and later featured its own variation in 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. Now, it appears the feature could be making its GTA VI debut, potentially marking the first time this mechanic has appeared in the Grand Theft Auto series.
GTA VI appears to have a spectacular new kill-cam
“Kill-cams really need to make a comeback in GTA VI,” said Reddit user BejitUlt2, to which fellow members on the forum were more than happy to share the good news.
“Well, boy do I have news for you!” replied GotShotInSchottler, with Honest-Razzmatazz-97 adding, “I think the leaks pretty much confirmed this.”

“It's back. Same style as Red Dead Redemption 2,” confirmed Atomosphere having seen the leaked footage. We still recommended taking leaks with a pinch of salt.

What is the Max Payne 3 kill-cam?
Unlike the Call of Duty kill-cam, which typically shows the opposing player’s perspective after you are eliminated in a multiplayer match, Max Payne 3’s kill-cam is far more cinematic.
Inspired by the iconic Bullet Time mechanic that debuted in the original Max Payne in 2001, Max Payne 3 can trigger a dramatic slow-motion sequence when you eliminate the final enemy in an encounter. The camera dynamically follows the action, showcasing the final shot from a variety of stylish angles and giving the kill an extra cinematic flourish.
The GTA series has previously used slow-motion effects, but these have generally been tied to special abilities or cinematic moments, such as performing a Stunt Jump in a vehicle. However, if the apparent kill-cam makes it into the final version of GTA VI, it could bring a new level of cinematic flair to the way players take down NPCs.
It’s worth keeping in mind that, despite a kill-cam featuring in the recent GTA VI gameplay leaks, which suggests it’s a confirmed feature, it’s not a guarantee that Rockstar Games will keep it in the game when it launches this November. In fact, the same could be said for other mechanics we’ve seen in the leaks so far.

What’s the story of GTA VI?
“Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” reads the synopsis of the game.
“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”
If you want to see more of GTA VI, gameplay leaks aside, we’ll be getting an “Extended Look” on Netflix on 27 August, 2026. If you’re not a subscriber to the service, then the GTA VI ‘Extended Look’ will be shared on the Rockstar Games website and official YouTube channel.
Grand Theft Auto VI will be released on November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
