Since its release in late 2020, the PlayStation 5 has blessed us with some fantastic games to enjoy. However, arguably one of the best games is totally free and that game is Astro’s Playroom.

What is considered to be a PlayStation 5 tech demo by Sony and developers Team Asobi, Astro’s Playroom launched as a free game for those that picked up the brand new console. Yet, gamers soon discovered that Astro’s Playroom wasn't merely just a tech demo to showcase the PS5 console and DualSense features, but it is an incredibly fun platforming game.

Check out the Astro Bot trailer below!

Astro’s Playroom is pre-installed on the PlayStation 5 and only takes up less than 11GB of storage space and if for whatever reason you overlooked this charming game, you need to play it ASAP. If you need an extra incentive, it’s also supported by easily obtainable trophies for you hunters out there.

Recently, during Sony’s State of Play event, a new standalone game was announced, Astro Bot, and judging by its endearing trailer, it looks to be another hit for the PlayStation mascot and the trailer was packed full of cameos - including God of War, Journey, Bloodborne and more.

However, if you thought you were done with Astro’s Playroom ahead of Astro Bot’s launch later this year, then think again because the developers have released a free update bringing new content to the free game as well as additional trophies to acquire.

Not only will you be able to earn five more trophies by playing Astro’s Playroom but as highlighted by Twitter user Wario64, players are teased with new story content upon firing up the game.

“A mysterious portal has appeared in the centre of the PS LABO. Could this be related to Astro’s new big adventure?” The game teases. “A new collection of gatchas have also been added. Time to go spend those extra coins.”

Astro Bot will be released exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on 6 September 2024.
