PlayStation 5 gamers, be warned, because reports are making the rounds that sava data is suddenly being wiped for some players.
We’ve all been there before, spending an ungodly amount of hours enjoying a video game, experiencing all it has to offer as we edge closer to its campaign completion. After finishing our session, we then return a day or two later to find that your save data has been completely wiped.
If there is ever a scenario that instantly kills all your enthusiasm, even for the best games, it’s when your save data has been erased beyond your control with no up-to-date backup in sight. It’s happened to me with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on two different occasions, having spent well over 100 to 150 hours on each playthrough attempt.
Unfortunately, there seems to be an issue right now on PlayStation 5, with some gamers reporting on Reddit that save data is suddenly disappearing from their consoles.

“Is anyone having problems uploading/downloading PS4 Data from PS Plus today?” asked Redditor Sir_Andrewsin, sharing a screenshot taken from the PlayStation 5. “It started occurring probably 10 or 15 minutes ago. It looks to be happening with all my PS4 games. PS5 games don't seem to be affected so far.”
Sir_Andrewsin went on to explain that this issue seems to be specific to PS4 cloud saves via the ‘Download from Cloud Saves’ function, and worst still, it’s even affecting PS3 save data.
“I just came here to post about it, looking for help. All of my PS4 save data is gone,” replied Miserable_Reindeer35.
“I thought it was just me having this issue,” added txih.
“PS3 and PS4 save games. Cannot upload or download saves to/from PS Plus... Just after the physical disc issue... Thanks, Sony!” declared allexxnemesis.
“It's likely a network error. I'm experiencing the same thing. If you go to the save screen in settings, it'll show that it can't see how much space is in the cloud. All PS4 saves are affected,” explained Hartia.
“I was uploading/downloading my Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice save so many times last night that when this started happening, I genuinely thought I’d personally broken PS Plus cloud sync,” expressed a concerned MuffinCautious4928.
“I thought I deleted all of my wife's Borderlands saves. Hopefully, this gets figured out soon,” exclaimed Good-Outcome6233.
I would hope that, despite the save data currently not being accessible for some via the PlayStation Network cloud, it’s still there somewhere. Unless in the unfortunate and unlikely event that Sony’s online cloud servers get completely wiped, we’ll be able to access it sooner rather than later.
The last thing Sony PlayStation needs right now is even more fan backlash following its controversial decision for its games to go all digital in January 2028.
