The PlayStation 4 is a thing of the past as more and more support for the system concludes, with a killing blow delivered by one of the biggest multiplayer games going.
If you haven’t upgraded to the PlayStation 5 yet, you probably should; otherwise, you’re going to be locked out of several big-name releases dropping in the future. Grand Theft Auto VI is the biggest one of all.
While you don’t have to throw it away or sell it if you don’t want to, it’s becoming increasingly clear that its usefulness has expired, especially with this latest announcement.
Yesterday, the next Call of Duty game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, was announced by Activision.
It’s the next game by Infinity Ward, and early-impressions are surprisingly positive. Many are claiming it’s a return to what Call of Duty is all about.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 will also be the first Call of Duty game to launch on the Nintendo Switch.

The reveal came with some other unfortunate news, though as it was said the popular battle-royale spin-off Call of Duty: Warzone will be cutting its support for last-gen consoles.
PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners may continue playing Warzone in the meantime, albeit with some cutbacks.
The official statement read: "Starting June 4, we will begin reducing the services offered for Call of Duty: Warzone on PlayStation 4 and XBOX One, with support for the game on these platforms coming to an end later this year."
If we had to guess, we’d say support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will end around the same time Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 launches, which will be 28 October 2026.
The news feels like one of the final nails in the coffin for last-gen consoles, as even Sony has cut back support, like restricting what games it offers via PlayStation Plus.
It’s becoming abundantly clear that video game companies want you to upgrade; otherwise, you’re going to be left behind while all the new-gen console owners get to have all the fun.
If only it were so easy to upgrade, though… Earlier this year, Sony confirmed yet another price increase for the PlayStation 5, affecting all of its iterations.
At the time of writing, you can pick up a new-gen console for a cheaper price with sales like Days of Play, but they’ll still cost you a pretty penny and that’s not even taking into account the price of AAA games.
But hey, that’s just the nature of the hobby nowadays. If you want to play the latest releases like Grand Theft Auto VI and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4, you need a system that supports them.
