Call of Duty fans who have patiently waited for its arrival on Nintendo finally have a reason to celebrate, following a major reveal this week.
The year was 2013, when the last Call of Duty game was released on a Nintendo console. So, to say that the 13-year wait for its next arrival has been agonisingly unlucky for fans of the series isn't that much of an understatement.
Well, that 13-year wait is unlucky no more, because the big release is finally coming in 2026, following the announcement of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 coming later this year.
Other than being available on the standard platforms, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 coming to Nintendo Switch 2 is a huge win for fans, because it means they can pretty much play the game wherever they want.

Sure, they can also play Modern Warfare 4 on the PC handhelds, the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Ally, but with recent price hikes on the Steam Deck, it could mean that’s no longer a viable option for many, compared to the less financially straining Nintendo Switch 2 port.
No line holds forever.

Call of Duty: Ghosts was released on the Wii U, and it wasn't the most well-received entry in the popular Activision property. That statement is reflected by its mixed reception on the aggregate website, Metacritic, scoring 78 from critics and 4.8 from users.
Though to be fair, Call of Duty has had somewhat of a turbulent time in recent years. While the multiplayer for 2023’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was decent, the same cannot be said about its disjointed story campaign. “Call of Duty deserved much better than this churned-out disappointment,” I said in my review, scoring it a 5/10.
The campaign for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 fared much better the following year, scoring an excellent 8/10, while its follow-up, Black Ops 7, brought it back down a couple of pegs, earning a 6/10. So to say that the series needs a big win with Modern Warfare 4 is no exaggeration.
Of course, as much as we Call of Duty fans would love to see Modern Warfare 4 knock it out of the park, nothing in life is a guarantee. That being said, no matter how well or poorly a game in this series is received, it’s always going to be one of the year's biggest sellers. I just hope that the financial gains of Modern Warfare 4 reflect the quality of the game.
One thing that we do know for sure this year is that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will not be a day-one Xbox Game Pass launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be released on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2 on 23 October 2026.
