How to claim Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4 beta weekend 2 free launch DLC

Infinity Ward has given fans a taster of what to expect with the future of the Call of Duty series with the first of its back-to-back free Modern Beta weekends - but the second open-access period is getting a cheeky DLC boost.

The Modern Warfare Series returns to Call of Duty after three years in the dark, as the double-header Black Ops trial ended in misery.

Famously, the rebooted Modern Warfare series has struggled for consistency despite outperforming its in-house rivals, with the first of the games in 2019 being a fast-firing arcade sim, and the sequel being much slower with a heightened emphasis on throwback content to honour the legendary MW2 instalment from 2009.

With fans expecting big things from Modern Warfare 4 as the franchise chases a return to mass popularity, the opening Beta weekend proved that the game was going to be much more like its 2019 reboot title, favouring speed and smoothness over tactics and quirky omnimovement.

Yet ahead of the Open Beta weekend, changes are afoot, and Call of Duty fans will be greeted by free DLC.

Modern Warfare 4 devs promise big changes for the second Beta weekend

Starting on August 28, Infinity Ward revealed that week two of the Beta will build on what is already available by releasing more maps, game modes, weapons, and operators.

Week two specifically will add the game mode Hijack (a new take on Uplink that will be used in Ranked playlists) and the map Lithium for multiplayer, release the new Warzone map Zociac, and unlock the level cap that held back weapons like the PPSH from the opening weekend.

There will also be a range of balances deployed in the update. As revealed on social media, the patch notes include a longer TTK time, a change in movement, weapon balancing, aim assist adjustments, and new Hardpoint spawns.

But the fun doesn't stop with game enjoyment, as the devs have also revealed that there will be eight free DLC rewards that will be unlocked in the full Modern Warfare 4 game, which can be earned this weekend.

How to claim free Modern Warfare 4 DLC this weekend

Heading into the second week of the Beta, players can unlock all eight Modern Warfare 4 DLC drops by simply leveling up by playing games and earning XP.

Rank up to Level 30 to unlock an exclusive Operator skin and a Weapon Blueprint that will be available to you on October 23.

The rewards include:

• Level 4: 'Through the Paces' Legendary Emblem
• Level 8: 'First Served' Weapon Charm
• Level 12: 'Meonjeo' Legendary Weapon Sticker
• Level 16: 'Last Charge' Legendary Calling Card
• Level 20: 'Dread Tiger' Operator Skin – Reece
• Level 23: 'Field Tested' Epic Spray
• Level 26: 'Beta Rights' Epic Loading Screen
• Level 30: 'Beta Forged' Weapon Blueprint – Han 86

There are also a handful of extra bonuses for completing special missions in the Beta:

• Mobility Course: Achieve rank 'S' to unlock the Clockwork Charm
• [Classified] Reward: Complete 1500 kills to unlock the universal 'Litmus' weapon camo
• Combat Record Rewards: Upload clips to 'Best of MW4 Beta' to unlock an extra Weapon Blueprint, Emblem, and Charm

All rewards will be available on day one of the Modern Warfare 4 full game release on October 23.

The Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta will open on August 28 at 10am PT / 1pm EST / 6pm GMT.
