Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 isn’t even in our hands yet, but that hasn’t stopped Insomniac Games from teasing a potential third instalment in the series.
We’re mere days away from October, so I think it’s fair to say that the final countdown has well and truly begun. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is due to launch on 20 September. We had the opportunity to go hands-on with the game, writing, “All the pieces are in place for one of the most exciting and high-stakes Spider-Man stories of all time. In short, this is shaping up to be the perfect sequel: bigger, faster, and altogether more spidery than its predecessors.” We’ve already seen the game’s enormous map, plus it looks as if Mysterio is set to feature alongside Venom and Kraven as another of the game’s villains. By the sounds of it though, Miles and Peter will be serving as New York’s protectors for years to come.
Take a look at our preview for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.
Several developers sat down with io9 to discuss Peter and Miles’ latest outing, but they also teased what’s in store beyond Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. Director Ben Arfmann was asked about the possibility of a sequel, saying, “I mean, I would love to be able to talk about that. We love this game - are so excited about this game. I’m really hoping that fans love it in the same way that we do. And we’re going to be so lucky to get to tell more stories. [But], for right now, I think what we can talk about is the game that comes out October 20."

Senior writer Lauren Mee added that they hope players will “finish the game and go, ‘Holy shit. I need more of this,’” while director of community and marketing James Stevenson teased a post-credits scene. Arfmann added, “Yeah, it’s definitely a Marvel experience.”
That would fit with what we’ve seen from the franchise so far. In the original Marvel’s Spider-Man, a post-credits scene revealed that Harry Osborn is actually Venom … something we’re clearly going to see play out now in next month’s sequel. This scene was continued in Miles Morales when we saw Harry waking up. It only seems fitting that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 should begin teasing the next big bad.
