Mewgenics has taken the world by storm thanks to its unique concept, strange art style, and quirky gameplay. Fans of the game are in for a treat, as it has been confirmed that console ports are in the works.
After its launch on February 10, 2026, Mewgenics has taken over the top of the Steam Charts, soaring to over 115,000 concurrent players and unseating Hades 2 for the most concurrent players at any time on Steam.
The game, which took 14 years to make and release, has immediately snuggled into the hearts of roguelike players for its unique gameplay and enormous amount of content. With 200+ hours of main campaign and thousands of abilities for your cats to obtain, Mewgenics is a powerhouse of an indie title.
However, the game is currently locked to PC and Steam Deck, and players are eager to know if it will be coming to console, and which platforms might receive ports.
Fans Want Mewgenics on Nintendo Switch 2
Thankfully, players haven’t been left in the dark about console ports for Mewgenics. In a release day AMA on Reddit, creators Edmund McMillen and Tyler Glaiel have been answering questions. In the breakdown, they have confirmed they are in talks for console ports of Mewgenics.

After being asked about console support, Edmund McMillen replied, “We are deciding on a publisher now and defer to them when it comes to what they feel is worth developing for.. I have no idea what is viable anymore, but I know switch 2 seems like the frontrunner right now.”
A potential release for the Nintendo Switch 2 would be a smart move, as the new Nintendo console has been gaining rapid popularity. It may also be more accessible than the Steam Deck due to the ongoing RAM shortages that have left the Steam Deck out of stock.
While console releases for Mewgenics have fans hyped, there could be a wait for any official announcements. In the meantime, fans can continue to enjoy the game on Steam.
