Highguard continues to struggle less than a month after release, as mass layoffs leave few developers to support the game. Now, the main website is down, leaving players in a lurch.
Wildlight has had a rough launch with Highguard, the free-to-play FPS hyped by Geoff Keighley. Just weeks after launch, Wildlight cut staff in a massive round of layoffs, leaving the future of Highguard uncertain as mixed Steam reviews continued to pile in.
Unfortunately, the trouble hasn’t ended for those left on the development team, as a recent discovery by players seems to indicate that the remaining staff may not be enough to keep the live-service game afloat.

At this time, there has been no announcement acknowledging that the site is down or providing an explanation for why it may have been taken offline.
The situation has left many to speculate on whether the game will stay live, with some seeing this as an indication that Highguard may be taken down in the near future, despite having been released in late January of 2026.
While some who have played Highguard have praised the game for a fun and chaotic experience, many of the current Steam reviews have offered sharp criticism about the game.
Many have pointed out a lack of originality, while others have commented that they can’t support the game following the massive cuts directly after release. Many have voiced a dislike and distrust of publishers that “sunset games when they aren’t instant best sellers.” Players have called the choice “scummy” and “dishonest.”
Unfortunately, with a lack of developer support, the future doesn’t seem bright for Highguard.
