Released just this week, Highguard was first unveiled at December The Game Awards. With none other than Geoff Keighley himself hyping up the hero shooter, it is safe to say that it had some big shoes to fill.

However, with the free-to-play hero shooter already sitting at a ‘Mostly Negative’ Steam rating with almost 20k reviews, it seems as though Highguard has not lived up to expectations.

So much so that its Steam synopsis has officially been edited.

Developed by Wildlight Entertainment, Highguard is a brand-new PvP raid shooter “where players will ride, fight, and raid as Wardens, arcane gunslingers sent to fight for control of a mythical continent”.

However, eagle-eyed gamers have noticed that this synopsis has been edited since Highguard’s launch with one important piece of information now removed.

Ahead of the launch of Highguard on 26 January, the game featured the line “from the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall”.

For context, Wildlight Entertainment was formed back in 2021 and consists of developers who previously worked at Respawn Entertainment: the home of Apex Legends and Titanfall.

During that time, the new studio has been working on Highguard, but, for a reason we do not yet know, its links to Apex Legends and Titanfall are no longer being mentioned as part of its marketing campaign.

Was Removing The Games A Choice, or A Need?

Is this related to Highguard’s barrage of negative reviews? Has EA stepped in as Wildlight Entertainment technically has no links to Respawn?

It remains to be seen but for now, gamers have been discussing the latest Steam omission over on r/gaming.

“If people were still falling for the old "from the creators of ..." as a valid reason to get into a game, at this point it's really no one else's fault,” one user shared.

However, another user thinks differently, adding, “For me it works.

“I always check out games by my favourite developers."

“However, I also wait for reviews before purchasing.”

Whatever you may think of this marketing technique, there is no denying that it works most of the time.

If you love a game from a certain studio, you are probably more likely to want to check out another game that its developers have been working on even if, in the case of Highguard, it does not live up to expectations.

Nevertheless, for one reason or another, Highguard no longer brands itself as from the creators of the successful Apex Legends and Titanfall.
