Creator Claims They Were Paid 'A Sandwich' for Attending Highguard Event

The mystery surrounding the game continues

We all enjoy a good sandwich but when it comes to compensation for your valuable time, you would hope for more than a bit of cheese and pickle. But one creator refused any compensation, saying he wanted his fans to receive his true opinion.

Today is finally the day that you have all been waiting for.

The release of Highguard.

However, if you do not know what Highguard is or have never heard of it, you're not the only one. The FPS title from the creators of Apex Legends and Titanfall has hardly been the subject of any intense marketing.

First revealed as the “very big announcement”, at December’s The Game Awards, Highguard is a PvP raid shooter where players take on the role of Wardens, arcane gunslingers who are sent to fight for control over a mythical continent.

“Ride, fight, and raid” as your chosen Warden and battle to the top of the leaderboard and in the meantime, destroy enemy bases in order to secure territory in this “all-new breed of shooter”.

Forgive me for the heavy exposition there, but I think it's needed. Unless you are Geoff Keighley, this game has not been on your radar as, despite a brief teaser trailer at December’s event, details surrounding Highguard have remained scarce.

However, in recent days, content creators have been coming forward with their thoughts on Highguard, after many were able to get a hands-on preview with the upcoming PvP raid shooter.

With reviews seeming quite positive, the general public is not convinced and questions have been raised as to whether these content creators have been paid to promote Highguard and give it a positive review.

No Compensation But At Least They Got Fed

Of course, we will never know exactly, especially if these players are under a NDA, but according to content creator Macro, some players refused payment.

“I did not get paid,” the content creator shared.

“Not only did I not get paid, they offered me money to make a video on it, but I straight up refused because I wanted my audience to have my real opinion on the game.

“I did not get a flight, a hotel or even an Uber. I drove myself to the event since it was in L.A.

“My only “compensation” was a sandwich during the lunch break."

“I genuinely had fun playing this game.”

With the majority of early release reviews being positive, we either have to face the fact that Highguard is going to shock us all and be an incredible game, or let it sink into obscurity.

Nevertheless, with Highguard launching in just a few hours, we will soon be able to make our own minds up on how this FPS from Wildlight Entertainment really is.
