Highguard just dropped some fresh gameplay as well as a look at its future content plans, and gamers have a lot to say about it.
Despite being the grand-finale of The Game Awards 2025 there wasn’t much hype for Highguard, despite featuring devs who had worked on both Titanfall and Apex Legends.
Following the award ceremony the “PvP Raid Shooter” as the developers have been calling, was awfully quiet but tonight a new gameplay reveal dropped via livestream.
The team at Wildlight Entertainment explained the core gameplay of Highguard as well as some of the characters you’ll play as, including their abilities.

Despite its medieval theme the devs reiterated that Highguard is still a shooter at heart, one that relies on good teamwork to both defend and raid your team’s base. In order to raid a base you’ll need to fight for the Shieldbreaker, which is where most of the PvP combat will take place.
Here’s What Gamers Are Saying About It
Like I said before Highguard fell silent after The Game Awards which unfortunately hurt its reputation before the game had even launched, there were even comparisons to Concord. However, this latest reveal livestream has seemingly garnered some favour amongst potential players.
At the time of writing there are around 4,000 players on Steam and the playercount continues to rise. But will it reach the same heights as Arc Raiders?

Taking a look at some of the responses to the new launch trailer the consensus is very mixed. Some players have already had an opportunity to play whereas others are waiting for digital stores to update so they can install it.
One player commented on the launch saying: “History has been made. Whether in a good way or a bad way we will see.”
Some fans are at least hopefully optimistic that the game will be good, like one who said they’re “excited to see what you guys have been cooking. Might have to apologise to Geoff [Keighley].|
However others have already deemed the game a failure. One even said “the showcase just confirms that this is one messy boring Concord-like.”
In truth it’s too early to tell if the game is fun, but at first glance it looks like Titanfall and Apex Legends fans will at least get a kick out of it.
We’ll be checking out Highguard ourselves over the coming week, as it’s free-to-play and available right now on Xbox, PlayStation and PC platforms.
