Stardew Valley creator Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone has teased Stardew Valley 2 for the game’s 10th anniversary, and I have no idea what to make of it.
I’m not big on ‘cosy games’, but Stardew Valley has been a consistent source of joy for me over the past decade.
While I’m very excited to see what Haunted Chocolatier is all about, Barone also teased a sequel to the 2016 farming sim banger.
Speaking to IGN for the game’s 10th birthday, Barone says that he “would love to” to make a sequel to Stardew Valley, because “it would just be fun to work on a whole new set of characters, a whole new world, maybe capture some of that original energy that I had back in 2012, when I started working with Stardew Valley.”

He added: “There's something fun about the number of possibilities in a whole new world, which I think would be fun for me. It'd be fun for my team. We'd be really excited about it.

Stardew Valley 2 Might "Put Off" Players Due To New Setting And Characters
However, Barone says that it's “a bit difficult” due to the attachment players have to the characters and setting of Stardew Valley, saying that a new setting may make people feel “put off” by it.
Barone then states that another approach to Stardew Valley 2 would be to use the existing cast but put them in a “new adventure in the world”, but then that means he’s “still stuck with the same thing”.
I think you could still make that idea work.
Here's what I'd like to see
In a real Animal Crossing moment, I'd love to go to city, Zuzu City that is.
I'd love to learn more about the extended world, beyond Stardew Valley. Could we learn about the mysterious war there as well?
We get a glimpse of Zuzu City in Sam's 8-heart event, which involves going to a concert. Imagine the characters you could meet on the streets!
Maybe even Stardew Valley villagers could take a trip out on Pam's bus? It'd be nice to see those familiar faces.

However, Barone also shares that “There was a time where I was starting to work on a Stardew Valley 2,” but this eventually shifted to Haunted Chocolatier, which he says is a bit “like Stardew Valley 2, but it's a bit different of a game.”
Still, even with Haunted Chocolatier and a potential eventual sequel in the pipeline, Barone is not finished with the original game yet.
Back in August last year, he teased that a 1.7 update was in the works, stating that “There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update. No release date, no estimate. But it's happening.”
Barone teased a few features for the 1.7 update in the IGN interview, including that two more marriage candidates will be added, along with “trying to make the children a little more interesting”.
