Stardew Valley has been one of the most consistent games in recent memory, as creator ConcernedApe and a small team at The Secret Police Ltd rolled out meaningful and tangible updates for the cosy release.
ConcernedApe has since largely moved on to the development of his next full release in Haunted Chocolatier, another simulation video game with a similar art direction and overall style.
That has had the knock-on effect of slowing down updates, with many feeling that the arrival of the 1.6 version of the game may well be its last major iteration before active development is dialled back further.
Happily, ConcernedApe confirmed they aren't quite done yet, promising both a 1.7 update and a port for the Nintendo Switch 2, with some additional gameplay elements that take advantage of unique features of the console.

The latter was supposed to arrive by the end of this year, but with very little of that left, fans have started to grow concerned that there may be some issues bubbling under the surface.

ConcernedApe Confirms Stardew Valley Announcement Coming Soon
Over on Twitter/X, developer ConcernedApe responded to a fan asking about when we might see the Stardew Valley Switch 2 port, saying the following, "I'll announce something very soon sorry about the long wait."
Now, obviously it doesn't say what that announcement is, but it's nice to know that something is coming down the pipeline at the very least.
He also sent out another response to a fan concerning the 1.7 update for the game, offering a little insight into what fans can expect when it does eventually arrive, saying, "There will be some more character/social stuff, it's also traditional to add a new farm type. Lots more but I don't want to reveal much yet."
The Switch 2 upgrade for the game is well worth getting if you own the console. It comes complete with full support for the system's mouse controls, as well as enhanced multiplayer with 4-player split-screen and 8-player online. It will also boast increased resolution and frame rate, as well as allowing players to take advantage of GameShare, letting up to four people play together with just one owned copy of the game. It's also all available as a free upgrade if you already own a version on the original console.
Sadly, desipte this tantalising update from the developer, we don't have anything like a release date just yet, for either the 1.7 update or the Nintendo Switch 2 release.
