Marvel’s Spider-Man fans can earn a bonus freebie off PlayStation just for playing the game, easy-peasy.

That’s seemingly the only new Spider-Man content you’re getting too, as both Insomniac Games and PlayStation have been radio-silent on new games and planned DLC expansions.

At the time of writing we’re still waiting on news for Marvel’s The Wolverine, there’s a potential Venom spin-off game in the works, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has planned DLC expansions but no hints as to what they’ll be or when they’ll drop.

In the meantime though perhaps you should direct your attention to PlayStation Stars, which is reportedly working after weeks of technical difficulties preventing users from accessing it. That being said even if you can’t access it you’ll still be completing challenges in the background, worry not.

The current Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 challenge is called “Exterminator,” and involves acquiring the PlayStation trophy of the same name.

In order to earn this trophy you’ll need to deal with all of the symbiote nests infesting New York, which will only become available during the game’s third act.

Once you’ve eliminated all of them and play the game a bit more you’ll have completed the challenge and can claim your reward.

What is the reward you may ask? It’s none other than the Symbiote Canister digital collectible, a recreation of the canister Peter and Miles catch Venom in following the Symbiote Spider-Man boss fight.

The digital collectible can be stored and displayed on a digital shelf found in the PlayStation Stars app, and unfortunately you can’t do much more with it than that.

Nevertheless it’s a cool thing to own and unlocking it isn’t that hard, especially if you’re planning to 100% the game and play it again on New Game+ as you’d simply unlock it anyway.

The deadline for this is 3 November, so you’ve got plenty of time especially since we’re still waiting for those DLC expansions.
