PlayStation gamers urged to use their free store credit before it expires

Don't forget to spend your free points!

PlayStation gamers have been urged to spend their free points ASAP before they expire.

In 2022, Sony launched its PlayStation Stars rewards scheme which gives players points for completing easy campaigns that may require you to play select PS Plus titles, and earn certain in-game trophies or simply spend money on the PlayStation Store.

The free points can be redeemed on digital items that you can proudly display on your PlayStation mobile app profile, and select video games including the likes of Rise of the Ronin or Steller Blade.

You can even choose to purchase £5 or £20 free store credit to spend how you please on the PlayStation Store.

Granted, it may take you a while to accumulate enough points to acquire £20 store credit or a major AAA release but with a little patience and persistence, you’ll get there eventually.

Yet, what you may not know (and I certainly didn't know) is that whatever amount of points you’ve accumulated from PlayStation Stars, they will eventually expire, as brought to our attention by Reddit user pinche-borracho.

“I was unaware that PlayStation Stars points expired at the end of the calendar year,” they revealed on the thread to fellow members.

However, while the points do indeed expire, they don’t expire after 12 months, instead, they will expire after 24 months, as detailed in a PlayStation.com FAQ.

“Points earned will expire at the end of the month plus 24 months from the date on which they appear in your PlayStation Stars account balance,” it reads.

While we do have plenty of time to spend our PlayStation Stars points, it’s worth keeping an eye on when you acquired them, because it would be heartbreaking to lose loads of points like Reddit user H3artlessnobody91.

“I can confirm that once your status resets, so do your points because in September, I had 5,679 points and now I lost all my points and I’m back at zero.

So if there’s a lesson learned here, don't forget to check the status of your reward points and spend them before they expire, even if it means buying a digital collectable or £5 store credit, because it’s better than nothing.
