A God of War remake may have been teased most unexpectedly. So please, the Gods of Mount Olympus, make this true.
In 2005, God of War was released on the PlayStation 2, and from that moment forth, fans were lured by the vengeful demigod that is Kratos. Sometimes, especially considering how he’s evolved in the soft 2018 reboot, it’s easy to forget that Kratos was a bit of a dick back in the day.
The Santa Monica Studio series would go on to release several sequels, spin-offs, remasters and countless merch. We’re even getting a live-action God of War movie, which hopefully will do the video game series the justice it so richly deserves.
In recent months, rumours have been making the social media rounds that the original God of War could be getting a modern remake, announced for its 20th anniversary. Sadly, however, all we got was a limited-edition DualSense controller.

This week, screenshots have leaked that reveal a God of War spin-off multiplayer game from Bluepoint Games was in the works before it was cancelled. It’s unclear whether or not this multiplayer game would be any good, but if it were anything like the tacked-on multiplayer mode in 2013’s God of War: Ascension, I wouldn't have had high hopes.
Judging by the leaked screenshots of the cancelled God of War multiplayer game, it would have been set in ancient Greece, the location of the original trilogy. However, despite the multiplayer game being cancelled, those unused assets from Bluepoint Games might not go to waste after all.
Over the years, Bluepoint Games has become somewhat of a master of the modern remake and remaster. They’ve remastered the likes of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, and the original Metal Gear Solid games in 2011, as well as the original Uncharted trilogy in 2015, to name a few.

Bluepoint Games has a history with God of War
In terms of remakes, they’ve created the awesome Demon’s Souls for PlayStation 5 in 2020. Yet, perhaps more relevant, they’ve also been associated with the God of War series, not only remastering the first two games in 2009 but also aiding Santa Monica Studio with the development of 2022’s God of War Ragnarök.

The story of the cancelled God of War multiplayer game was broken by MP1st, but now new speculation has emerged that Bluepoint Games could actually be working on the highly requested remake of the 2005 game.
“So we just learned that Bluepoint is currently working on a third-person melee-based action game with puzzles,” claimed xMBGx, while retweeting the story from MP1st.
“Considering all of this work was done in the Greek setting by Bluepoint, I'm thinking they are doing a God of War remake now. It would make the most sense.”
Of course, this is unconfirmed speculation at this point, so it should be taken with a pinch of salt, but I am a believer in there being no smoke without fire. If this rumour proves to be true, at least it will make up for an underwhelming DualSense controller to celebrate the 20th anniversary of God of War.
