At long last, it seems as though the upcoming live-action God of War television show is finally underway as fans were recently surprised at a casting update.
Set to be based on 2018’s semi-reboot God of War, planning is now underway for the Amazon television show with the same name.
With filming expected to begin as early as next year, Amazon has surprised fans by releasing an extensive casting call for the show’s main characters.
The story, which is expected to focus on the ever-growing bond between Kratos and his son Atreus, is set to be headed by Ronald D. Moore as showrunner who is perhaps best known for his work on Star Trek and Outlander.

As with every other casting call, the roles for God of War feature fake names but it is pretty clear which character each call is referring to.
So without further ado, let us take a look at what Amazon is looking for for our main cast.
There are a few things to take away here: the God of War live-action adaptation will reportedly feature quite a lot of nudity and violence which could see it reach that R-rating.
Additionally, characters such as Atreus are needed for just one year which could mean that Amazon has plans to also adapt God of War Ragnarök and perhaps cast an older actor for the second season.
Whatever the case, fans over on r/GamingLeaksAndRumours came together to share their thoughts on the update.
“Man, I wish they’d start at the Greek,” one user suggested. “Makes the Norse feel more impactful.”
User CarbVan was also not feeling optimistic.
“Wish Sony would do something interesting for their TV and movies rather than straight up adapting things we've already seen,” they shared.
“Very boring and uninteresting to me, I'll replay the games rather than watch something that gets 80% of the way there but botches some random aspects because the writers refuse to play the games.”
With other users excited to see possible bum shots of Kratos whilst others yearn for the days of the Spartan warrior’s Greek myth-based adventures, it seems as though Amazon has a lot to prove with this upcoming adaptation.
