Although Santa Monica Studio has not yet announced what the next God of War project will be, it seems as though a recent job listing may just shed some light on the future of the franchise.

It has been almost three years since God of War Ragnarök was released and with the God of War reboot being met with critical acclaim, it only seems right that Santa Monica Studio will be working on the next instalment.

If the rumours are to be believed, Sony is currently working on a God of War spin-off title which will reportedly send us back to ancient Greece to learn more about Kratos’ origins.

Of course, the original God of War entries were set during this time period so although it is a wild diversion from the Norse setting that we are now used to, it does make sense.

However, when it comes to the next big God of War instalment, we are still being left in the dark.

Well, a job listing found on Sony’s Greenhouse page shines some light by revealing that the company is currently looking for a senior combat designer.

The post is for an unnamed project but it will have a focus on designing and implementing enemy and boss characters.

Additionally, the senior combat designer will need to work together with other designers, including Sony’s animation and art teams.

Candidates will also have to be able to discuss the combat systems and mechanics for one or more third-person melee action RPGs.

Perhaps most importantly, they will also need to have knowledge on the combat design mechanics and systems found in God of War and God of War Ragnarök.

So could this unnamed project be the third instalment in the God of War reboot?

Only time will tell but it is definitely an exciting time for fans.
