God of War Official Update Drops Amid New Game Hype

It's all coming together

God of War fans are eager to hear about the next game in the series, and while they wait to see what that bizarre desert stunt is all about they’ve received an exciting update on another project.

In case you missed it, an impressive sculpture has randomly appeared in a desert in the United States, and it’s tied to an upcoming gaming announcement.

Gamers have been trying to predict what the mysterious monolith could be teasing, from The Elder Scrolls VI to a new God of War.

Santa Monica Studios’ Cory Barlog is adamant that it’s not teasing a new God of War game, but that hasn’t stopped fans from holding onto hope.

In the meantime there is an official God of War announcement to speak of, an update on the upcoming live-action series.

A New Beginning

Apparently the series has started the casting process as it searches for its Kratos, Atreus and other Norse-Saga characters.

In another update Emmy-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye has been confirmed to be handling the first two episodes of the series.

Toye may be recognisable for his work on other successful Amazon Prime Video shows, like The Boys and more importantly Fallout, so we might have a good adaptation on our hands. Toye is also known for his outstanding work on Shogun, the reason he won an Emmy.

It’s said the series will follow Kratos’ adventures in Midgard, after leaving his home in Greece following a rampage of vengeance and destruction.

God of War (2018) was always treated like a semi-reboot.

One that could be enjoyed either by those who played the original trilogy and its spin-offs as well as those who had no prior knowledge of the God of War series.

Turning this era of Kratos’ life into a TV series seems like the best outcome on paper, especially since Kratos wasn’t exactly the hero of his story in the first three games… It’d be a bit hard to root for him.

So far nothing has been said about a new game, and with Cory Barlog adamant that the statue in the desert has nothing to do with Santa Monica Studios fans could be out of luck.

You never know though, perhaps this is just a classic case of misdirection, as eagle-eyed fans are confident some of the outlines, statues and armour featured on the sculpture are from the rebooted God of War games.
