It may have only been almost three years since the latest God of War instalment, God of War Ragnarök, was released but a recent leak may just prove that another sequel is on the way.

Following the success of the recent God of War reboot by Santa Monica Studio, it is hard to believe that the God of War franchise actually sprung to life twenty-years ago.

The series looked quite different back in 2005 with the story following our Spartan warrior Kratos as he battled monsters and deities from Greek mythology.

Now thanks to the recent reboot, we now think of Kratos as a budding father who travels across ancient Scandinavia with his son Atreus.

Well, it seems as though that story is set to continue with God of War 6.

According to a report by Insider Gaming, Santa Monica Studio is already working on development for the next instalment.

Following the news that Insomniac Games’ highly-anticipated Wolverine would star at PlayStation’s next State of Play event, Insider Gaming also has it on “good authority” that another mainline God of War title is also in the works alongside the rumoured God of War Metroidvania title.

No other information was provided but if Santa Monica Studio is currently working on two God of War titles, albeit very different styles, it may still be a few years until we get our hands on either of them.

Nevertheless, fans of the God of War franchise took to r/GamingLeaksAndRumours to share their thoughts on the recent Insider Gaming report.

“GoW 6 will probably be a PS6 exclusive launch title,” one user suggested, which would make sense based on how long it may take to develop.

However, another user hopes that it will bring back that old God of War charm.

“Hoping the gameplay makes another bold, inspired shift. What form that takes, I'll let the people at Santa Monica figure out,” they shared.

“I just hope it isn't as... chatty... as Ragnarök was. It felt like a Marvel movie at times. I think there were also more writers on it, and it lost that hand-crafted, intentional feel that 2018 had.”

It remains to be seen which direction Santa Monica Studio will take God of War 6 but there is no denying that it has a lot to live up to.
